Days of Victory; Canadians Remember 1939-1945
by Ted Barris and Alex Barris - Published by Macmillan Canada, 1995 - 304 pages
The father and son authors present the memories of ordinary Canadians in this interesting book about the years of the Second World War. In the Introduction they state, "From 1939 to 1945 Canada had turned itself inside out from being an essentially backwater, rural nation into an economically vibrant, urban society and one of the world's industrial giants." That journey of transformation is captured through the stories of the people who experienced it.
The book is divided into sixteen chapters and has a bibliography and index. There are stories about wartime life in Canada scattered throughout the book. Particular emphasis is given the home front in the chapter "Home Rules."
