Life as Usual
Without doubt, the years 1939-1945 in Summerside revolved around the war. The presence of the RCAF Station boosted the economy and provided a common focus of entertainment as citizens did their best to welcome the air force into their community. In addition, local people participated in government rationing and salvage programs and sent letters and parcels overseas. Town residents also provided financial support for the war effort through government war savings plans and Victory Loan campaigns.

However, there were other things happening in town and the usual business of daily living was reflected in the press. For an overview of Summerside life outside the parameters of war in the early 1940s, view the following images.
