(Red Cross Corps)

Elizabeth Carruthers joined the Red Cross Corps when it formed in August 1941. She was a teacher at the Parkside School at the time and boarding on Argyle Street. She was in the division that studied nursing and first aid skills and recalls the amount of study involved in gaining her certificate. During air raid practices, the members of the group would have to respond as quickly as possible. She also remembers working at the canteen in the Legion Home.
