Let's Set the Stage for Your Study

To start our journey it is necessary to understand what war is. It is a word that is often used in a number of ways. Individuals or politicians will declare war against some social ill that they wish to see gone. An example of this is declaring war on child poverty in Canada, a very noble cause indeed. The reality of war, in the traditional sense, is far from glorious. It means an armed conflict between countries, states, or individual groups of people. Governments or individuals use violence to settle their differences and the stronger side is declared the winner. At the centre of war is death and destruction. It needs at least two parties to begin a conflict. War is as old as the human race and the violence of it has come down through the ages.
