The presence of an RCAF Station on the outskirts of town brought many economic benefits to Summerside.

Two local firms were awarded major contracts for the construction of the training facility. Curran & Briggs Ltd. prepared the runways and M.F. Schurman & Co. Limited had the principal contract for building the large hangars and numerous buildings. The town felt the benefit of supplying electricity to the airport.

Once the Station was established, local businesses had new markets for their goods and services and many citizens earned income by renting rooms, apartments or houses.

In the annual report of the Board of Trade in January 1943, President A.R. Brennan stated, "Between the Air Establishments now operating in and scheduled for Summerside, Mount Pleasant and Tignish, upwards of 5000 air personnel will be in this County, giving an expenditure of several million dollars annually, for pay alone, beside stole and food supplies running into large sums, most of which money goes through local concerns in various ways."
