The Elders’ Circle Video Tapes are a series of 26 recordings of interviews done with 24 senior individuals of the Summerside area as they reminisced on a large variety of topics. Reg "Dutch" Thompson created the tapes in 1999–2000 as a component of the Summerside Millennium Project. The videos were broadcast in an edited form on the PEI Community Television Cable Network.The interviews offer an informative, moving, and nostalgic look at Summerside, Prince County, and the province as a whole in the early 20th century. It is history told by the people who lived it. The tapes are in VHS format and are freely available for viewing at MacNaught History Centre and Archives. In the summer of 2002, a student project worker created a database listing various topics found on 17 of the tapes. It can be accessed at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, and will soon be available through our subscription service. The remainder of the tapes will be indexed as part of a future project.
